Trial: BioCyc Database Collection until 28.12

BioCyc Databases  is available in University of Helsinki until 28.12.

The BioCyc databases are divided into three tiers, based on their quality.

Tier 1 databases have received at least one person-year of literature-based curation, and are the most accurate. EcoCyc and MetaCyc have each received more than 20 person-years of curation.

Tier 2 and Tier 3 databases contain computationally predicted metabolic pathways, predictions as to which genes code for missing enzymes in metabolic pathways, and predicted operons.

The development of BioCyc is funded by NIH grant GM080746 from the NIH National Institute of General Medical Sciences.

The Encyclopedia of Arabic Language and Linguistics Online comprehensively covers all aspects of Arabic languages and linguistics. It is interdisciplinary in scope and represents different schools and approaches. The Encyclopedia of Arabic Language and Linguistics Online is cross-searchable and cross-referenced, and is equipped with a browsable index. All relevant fields in Arabic linguistics, both general and language specific are covered and the Encyclopedia of Arabic Language and Linguistics Online includes topics from interdisciplinary fields, such as anthropology, psychology, sociology, philosophy, and computer science.

Terkko Health Hub Grand Opening on Oct 5th, Campus Library Closes at 4:30 pm

On Thursday October 5th Meilahti Campus Library closes already at 4:30 pm due to Terkko Health Hub Launch Party held at the premises.

Terkko Health Hub is a new meeting point for university students, researchers, doctors and other healthcare staff and companies operating in the field of health technology. In addition to the most comprehensive collections in medicine and health sciences and the expert information specialists, Terkko Health Hub provides working space, cafeteria and facilities for organizing diverse events.

Trial: Interested in the history of China? Translations of the Peking Gazette Online until 1.11

Translations of the Peking Gazette Online is a comprehensive database of approximately 8,500 pages of English-language renderings of official edicts and memorials from the Qing dynasty that cover China’s long nineteenth century from the Macartney Mission in 1793 to the abdication of the last emperor in 1912.

As the mouthpiece of the government, the Peking Gazette is the authoritative source for information about the Manchu state and its Han subjects as they collectively grappled with imperial decline, re-engaged with the wider world, and began mapping the path to China’s contemporary rise.

Study information seeking and management online!

Do you need help in finding sources for your master’s thesis but don’t have time to take a course? Try our new online open course on information seeking that is targeted at international students writing their master’s thesis.

MOOCThe course is produced by Helsinki University Library and it is currently a beta version.

The courses are open for everybody who want to polish their skills in information seeking and management.

You can look at the course materials as a guest but completing the assignments require a login. You can either:

Please note that if you have already joined courses by using user account and want to start now using your organisation ID (Haka) instead, you need to add yourself to the course again. We do not recommend you to do this in the middle of the course, because your previous assignments are only visible with your previously created ID!

The courses are open for the time being.
