Library Price List Updated

Helsinki University Library price list has been updated. The new prices will come into effect on Monday, 15th of September, 2014. The changes in prices apply mainly to the interlibrary loans and the cost of the IT services and renting the library premises.

TRIAL ENDED October 9!

Taylor & Francis eBooks offers instant access to  more than 45,000 titles  — from general subject areas to interdisciplinary selections hand-picked by our editorial teams.

The books can be browsed by subject areas.

Small amount of books needs a FileOpen-plugin for Adobe Reader. FileOpen is already installed to all Helsinki University computers. You can install FileOpen onto your own device from here.

The university staff and students may also use the these e-books remotely outside the university network. Non-Helsinki University users can use them in the units of the Library.

Workshop on Japanese research tools at Kaisa Library

Workshop on Japanese research tools at the Helsinki University Main Library
Date: Monday, September 22, 2014 – 10:15 to 14:00

This popular workshop on Japanese online research tools will be held for the third time on 22 September 2014. This year the workshop will be held at Kaisa Library and apart from demonstrations of Japan Knowledge and Asahi Shinbun Kikuzo II Visual it will also include Nikkei Telecom, thereby covering three of the most important Japanese databases. The workshop will end with a presentation of some new Japanese Online resources.

We warmly welcome you to participate in this opportunity to get a hands-on introduction to the databases and to ask questions to the database representatives.

The workshop is free but please register.

If convenient, please bring your own computer with Japanese language support to the workshop to be able to try the databases.

Kaisa Library’s second anniversary

Kaisa House staff would like to thank you for the past years and wish you all welcome again!

Helsinki University Main Library (Kaisa House) opened two years ago, September 3rd, 2012. During these two years there have been:
– 2 695 811 visitors
– 778 456 loans
– 810 768 returns
– 134 893 reserved items
– 15 431 new customers.

Customers have mostly praised spaciousness and lightness of the lovely house, but at the same time complained about the noise and visitor groups.

There’s been complaints also about the inadequacy of reading places. On this account we have increased the number of chairs and specifyed the guidelines of reservation.

Hundreds of New eBooks from Cambridge University Press

There are now more than 1000 new eBooks from Cambridge University Press accessible to the students and staff of the University in the Cambridge Books Online interface. 

Abour 300 new titles have been added to the collection during summer time and 50-100 ones will be added monthly.

The books are published  2013-2014 and they are on the fields of all campuses, for instance:

All these books (and hundreds added during the next  6-7 months) will be accessible until the end of March 2015.  The most popular of them will be acquired permanently. (Further information on the acquisition model –>)

These E-books can be browsed by subject in Cambridge Books Online .The books accessible to UH have been marked by the green ball with P.
