The Helsinki University Library hosts the international conference Designing the Future – From Concepts to Library Buildings 6.-9.5.2014.
The conference is organized by a collaborative network of European research libraries and its goals are to advance exchanging of experience among library professionals and architects, as well as to distribute information of latest trends and projects in the field of library architecture.
Over 100 library professionals and other interested parties are expected to participate in the conference.
The Helsinki University Main Library, Kaisa House, opened in 2012 and has since gathered both national and international recognition and several architectural prizes. Conference participants also have a chance to visit other libraries in the Helsinki metropolitan area.
Today Helsinki University Library received a significant donation from the Embassy of Mexico, as we received some 350 books by the high education institutions of Mexico.
Some of the books donated to HULib by The Embassy of Mexico
The topics of this scientific literature include poetry, culture, sciences, history, politics, and economy. The donation is made to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the Establishment of Resident Embassies in Mexico City and Helsinki.
The collection will be made available for the library customers through HELKA database.
“I hope this donation contributes to a better knowledge of Mexico and to increase the curiosity of students and scholars to deepen their studies in its culture, its economy, its science, as well as improve their Spanish language skills.”

The amendment of Kumpula Campus Library will be completed during 2014. When the construction work is finished, a new, more functional learning environment is available for patrons.
During the first half-year the library operates only on the 2nd floor, where workstations and reading places are available, in addition to the collections. For the duration of the construction work, all the volumes of periodicals have to be in storage, and they are inaccessible, until the fall. Articles unavailable in electronic form can be acquired via interlibrary lending.
The construction work will cause exceptions in services and be quite noisy at times. We regret the disturbance. Free earplugs are available at the info desk. More information is available f. ex. on the blog Kumpulan kampuskirjaston remonttiblogi (in Finnish).
