The university recognized University Librarian Kaisa Sinikara with an honorary award

Wilhelmsson_SinikaraRector Thomas Wilhelmsson has presented the head of the Helsinki University Library, University Librarian Ms. Kaisa Sinikara a silver medal. The university awards its distinguished staff members and partners with medals, available in bronze and silver.  Very few persons, less than a hundred, have been awarded the silver medal, first introduced in 1957.

The Kaisa Sinikara Seminar, International Cooperation in Building the Future of Academic Library Services, was held on 3 June, 2013 at the Small Hall of the university. The seminar was arranged to honor Ms. Sinikara for her long and successful career, that spanned decades at the university.

Main Library Night Check-In Available From May 31st

From today (May 31st) it is possible to return books to the Helsinki University Library when the library is closed.

The night check-in unit is located to the left of the main entrance of Kaisa House on Fabianinkatu.

During the summer, night check-in will be available weekdays from 5:45 PM to 10:15 AM and all weekend. The check-in unit opens with a Helka card and it will accept books of normal size from the Helsinki University Library.The books will be registered as returned when the library opens again.

Summer reads: Springer eBooks and MyCopy-service

SpringerLink My Copy –service  allows library patrons with Helsinki University ID to order a personal, printed-on-demand softcover edition of an eBook for EUR 24.99 (including shipping and handling). Helsinki University staff and students can order MyCopy books with their own credit cards. The book will also need to be part of the Helsinki University Library’s licenced eBook package(s).

On trial Global Plants as part of JSTOR service.

A comprehensive database of plant type specimens and complementary content for the study of plant life.
– The largest of its kind, Global Plants (plants.jstor.org) is community-contributed database that features more than two million high resolution plant type specimen images and other foundational materials from the collections of hundreds of herbaria around the world. It is an essential resource for institutions supporting research and teaching in botany, ecology, and conservation studies.
