Housing – did you start looking yet?

housing

Hopefully you by now have started to look for a place to live in Helsinki. If you haven’t already started looking for housing, then do it now!

To help you out, we have compiled a Housing Guide with useful hints and the most important sources of information for house hunters.  The biggest student housing provider in the Helsinki area is Hoas (Foundation for Student Housing in the Helsinki Region), so you should definitely submit an application with them.

Even though Helsinki is a really nice place to live – once you’ve found a flat – there are still a few realities that you should be aware of.

As the capital of Finland and a big student city, Helsinki is a popular place to live and finding housing, especially at a reasonable price, is challenging. Be prepared to pay about 400-600 euro/month in rent.

The most important piece of advice we can give you is to start looking for a place to stay now. And remember; if a private landlord offers you a studio apartment in the city centre for 500 euro/month, it is probably what it sounds like, i.e. too good to be true. And if you get a housing offer from HOAS – accept it!

Please contact : https://www.hoas.fi/www/hoaswww.nsf/sp?open&cid=homepage   (Foundation for Student Housing in the Helsinki Region) in case you have any questions about your HOAS housing application and you are not able to find the answer to your question on their website: https://www.hoas.fi/www/hoaswww.nsf/sp2?open&cid=FAQEXG  Note also that HOAS-tenancy agreement is made for a fixed time and it cannot be terminated.
