Applying to University of Helsinki as an exchange student

Has your home university selected you for student exchange at the University of Helsinki for the spring semester 2015? Congratulations, you are making a good choice! In total, University of Helsinki welcomes about 1000 exchange students each year, for one term or for the full academic year.

If you have already been nominated by your own university, you have taken the first steps towards becoming an exchange student. The next steps of the application process are outlined below.

The Orientation Handbook is now available online!

The Orientation Handbook for the academic year 2014-15 is now available online. The handbook contains a lot of practical information that will help you get started with your student life and to navigate through daily life. It includes for example general information about living in Finland and studying in the University of Helsinki.

A printed copy will be given to all new international students at the Welcome Fair in August 2014.

The application time for incoming exchange students ended on 15.05.2014!

vaihtariThe University of Helsinki received this spring from Europe over 600 Erasmus and Nordplus applications and from the other continents in various programmes altogether over 100 applications for the autumn 2014 or for the whole academic year 2014-2015! We want to thank you all warmly for applying!

If your application is approved, you will receive your acceptance letter by e-mail, sent by your host faculty. Acceptance information is usually available around the mid-June or latest by the end of June. Before that your application is considered by your host faculty. Please try to wait patiently! Helsinki stole my heart and transformed me from Erasmus to Master’s Degree Student

katarinaThe beginning of my international master story dates back to the spring of 2011 when I was deciding where to spend my next semester as an Erasmus exchange student. After a very long consideration of all the other possibilities, I chose Helsinki, a nice city with a well-known university. From the point of view of a real ice-hockey fan, Finland itself seemed like a very interesting country and promised a lot of unforgettable experiences. Though, at that time I didn’t know that this place will reserve a special spot in my heart forever. Begin your stay in Helsinki with a visit to the Welcome Fair!

WF_orientation_January_2014In no time at all it will be January and we are looking forward to greet all our new exchange and visiting students here at the University of Helsinki.

Your exchange experience will begin with a visit to the Welcome Fair on January 8th or 9th, 2014, as well as your Faculty orientation. So you need to take part in both! Remember to bring your official ID (passport, ID card) with you – otherwise you won’t be able to get all of the official matters out of the way.
