Astrophotography – April 2017 (Helsinki)

Here is a recent photo of Jupiter. It is processed in lightroom to enhance the satellites. An over exposed show is in the lower right corner. Clearly its possible to get decent images using a DSLR camera but this was using a 600 mm Tamron lens with a 2* telephoto extender and with a crop sensor (Canon EOS 700D).

Better resolution than this will require one of the expensive telephoto lenses but we will still be limited by the number of pixels available on this sensor. Perhaps a telescope is now required to get better quality images of the big planets. Waiting for Saturn to be on the horizon to see what is possible.
