Jenny Renlund

Jenny Renlund is a doctoral student in the School, Education, Society, and Culture Doctoral Programme at the University of Helsinki. Her doctoral thesis focuses on aesthetic dimensions of young children’s experiences in nature. Jenny has a three year long personal funding for her doctoral research from the Nessling foundation. Her research interests include multiliteracies, digital literacy, multimodal and multi-sensuous pedagogies, environmental education, aesthetic experience and arts-based methods. Jenny holds a Master of Arts in General and Adult Education. During her studies in educational sciences at the University of Helsinki, Jenny has attended courses in art education didactics and aesthetic philosophy. Jenny also has training in fine arts painting and several years of experience working as a visual artist. In her work as an artist Jenny has planned and organized both solo and group exhibitions. In her art she explores human-nature connections. Jenny has worked in various research projects at the University of Helsinki, where she has collaborated on developing and researching pedagogical materials that are designed to promote children’s aesthetic engagement and materials that enhance children’s multiliteracy and ecoliteracy. Her most recent collaboration is a children’s picture book called Kupla. During her employment Jenny has also participated in co-writing research papers and organizing events and pedagogical workshops for adults and children. Jenny’s current research project is ECHOing- Enriching Children’s Ecological Imagination, funded by Australian Research Council.
