The Making of Modern Law is available in the University of Helsinki until 16.5.

We have access to the following modules:

Foreign Primary Sources, 1600-1970, Part I and II

–  Part I and II are digital collections of historical legal codes and similar statutory materials, as well as commentaries on codes from around the world.

Foreign, Comparative and International Law, 1600-1926

– complements the award-winning The Making of Modern Law: Legal Treatises, 1800-1926. Coverage is primarily from the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, but there are also several hundred classics in European international law since the seventeenth century.

Access to several 2019 publications in Oxford Handbooks Online  is now available permanently in the University of Helsinki network.

New content has been acquired for these subject areas:

Linguistics

Philosophy

Political Science

Psychology

Religion

The annual collections include the books published completely in 2019 and articles in the books the content of which grows during several years.

Monthly updates will introduce individual Handbook chapters prior to their release in print, online-only essays on emerging areas of research and updated versions of all articles.

The books will be catalogued in the Helka database.

Join Gale Primary Sources workshop Thur 28rd of March and learn to use resources effectively

Do you want to find more tools to access and analyze the resources offered by the university? Then you are very welcome to join us for the Gale Primary Sources Workshop!

In the workshop, led by Helsinki University’s own Gale Student Ambassador Pauli Kettunen, you will receive a brief introduction into the archives, as well as tips on accessing and using them for your own research.

“Gale’s numerous archives consist of monographs, photographs, and maps, as well as full runs of British and American newspapers, dating from the 18th century up until the present day, a amazing resource when studying languages, social sciences, history, theology… You name it!”

Learn to use Digital Humanities tools of Gale Digital Scholar Lab, which help you to analyze your corpus of documents with visualization tools. There is also time for workshopping your own ideas, asking questions and working together to find out how Gale’s sources could best support you in your work.

Mohr Siebeck e-books are available in the University of Helsinki network until the 13th of May 2019.

Most of the books on trial are published in 2018 but there will also be books published this year.

This collection of streaming video on the SAGE Research Methods platform offers support on the practical skills that you need to successfully complete your research. Key areas such as writing a research proposal, planning and designing a research project, and securing ethical approval are explicitly covered. Practical skills such as project management, writing for publication, presenting work, and building networks are also presented through helpful explanatory videos.

The Ricci Dictionary of Chinese Law Online (Chinese-English, French) is available in the University of  Helsinki until 18.3.

The Ricci Dictionary of Chinese Law (Chinese-English, French), developed by the Ricci Association since 2006, is  the trilingual dictionary on Chinese law. The dictionary includes approximately 24,000 legal terms in Chinese (legal terms per se as well as terms which are often used in a legal context), as well as English and French translations of these terms.

The dictionary includes 20 branches, including Ancient Law, Administrative Law, Admiralty Law, Banking and Financial Law, Civil Law, Commercial Law, Company Law, Constitutional Law, Criminal Law, Environmental Law, Institutions, Insurance Law, International Private Law, International Public Law, International Trade Law, IP Law, Jurisprudence, Labour Law, Procedure, and Tax Law.

On Trial: World Council of Churches Online: Relations with the Roman Catholic Church and Brill Encyclopedia of Early Christianity Online until 31.3.

World Council of Churches Online: Relations with the Roman Catholic Church  and Brill Encyclopedia of Early Christianity Online are available in the University of Helsinki at the end of March.

World Council of Churches: Relations with the Roman Catholic Church makes available a section of the ecumenical archives covering the period 1948-1992. The documents in the archives consist of correspondence, personal notes, press cuttings, reports and unpublished material. Records are divided into five sections: General documentation, Roman Catholic Church, Council Vatican II, Joint Working Group and Sodepax.

The Brill Encyclopedia of Early Christianity Online focuses on the history of early Christianity, covering texts, authors, and ideas and covering the whole period of early Christianity up to 600 CE. Encyclopedia addresses a range of traditions, including iconographic, martyrological, ecclesiastical, and Christological traditions.
