TTH – Translated Texts for Historians is 54-volume book series with over 14 500 pages of historical sources from A.D. 300 – 800 translated into English.

The geographic range covers Syria, Arabia, Armenia, Georgia and Egypt in the East; North Africa; major cities of the Roman Empire (Antioch, Alexandria and Constantinople); and Spain, Gaul, Italy, Britain and Ireland in the West. The texts have been translated into English from Greek, Latin, Syriac, Coptic, Arabic, Georgian, Armenian and Old Irish.

Types of writing include histories, chronicles, letters, annals, formularies, compendia, political speeches, military and theological handbooks, poems, documentary sources, records of church councils, biblical and theological commentaries, sermons, church histories, Christian treatises, Christian and pagan panegyric and polemic, Neoplatonic texts, Lives of saints, bishops and popes.

Each volume includes an introduction setting the text into context, and rigorous notes on content, interpretation and debates.

Rock’s Backpages – Trial: 11.3. – 12.4.2015

Rock’s Backpages is a digital archive of popular music journalism, updated weekly and sourced from the early 1960s to the present day. It contains articles, interviews and reviews from music writers and critics.

The archive covers all genres of popular music and it is fully searchable by artist, genre, writer or keyword (allowing search by an album or single title, date etc).

The use is restricted to Helsinki University students, faculty, staff and the local users in the National Library and Helsinki University Library.

U.S. Intelligence on Europe 1945-1995 is a collection of over 4,000 formerly classified U.S. government documents provides a comprehensive survey of the U.S. intelligence community’s activities in Europe, including Eastern Europe, Turkey and Cyprus, covering the time period from the end of World War II to the fall of the Iron Curtain and beyond.

The use is restricted to Helsinki University students, faculty, staff and the local users in the National Library and Helsinki University Library.

ChinaLawInfo contains Chinese legislation, case law, treaties and articles and table of contents of Chinese legal journals.

Material is mainly in Chinese. English tab provides search possibility in English, result headlines are usually in English. Some fulltext material is also available in English.

Database contains mainly subscribed material which can be used only from one designated computer in the Helsinki University Library, Fabianinkatu 30, 4th floor: location of the computer.

Book History Online has been Acquired!

Book History Online (BHO), which was in trial use on January-February, has been now acquired. BHO is the international bibliography in the field of book and library history. It provides a comprehensive survey of all scholarly publications written from a historical perspective. Included are monographs, articles and reviews dealing with the history of the printed book, its arts, crafts, techniques and equipment, its economic, social and cultural environment, as well as its production, distribution, preservation and description.

BHO is published in partnership with the University of St Andrews and the Society for the History of Authorship, Reading, and Publishing (SHARP).

The use is restricted to Helsinki University students, faculty, staff and the local users in the National Library and Helsinki University Library.

New section Medicine in JoVE

JoVE, the Journal of Visualized Experiments, is peer reviewed scientific video journal.

University of Helsinki has access to new section in JoVE, Medicine.

Other sections available in University of Helsinki are JoVE Biology, JoVE Immunology and Infection and JoVE Neuroscience.
