AccessMedicine, now acquired by the library, provides almost 100 medical eBooks and over 400 video tutorials. Among the books there are for instance such titles as Hurst’s The Heart and Junqueira’s Basic Histology.
Thousands of eBooks from Palgrave Acquired!

The Library has acquired thousands of eBooks from Palgrave in addition to those tens acquired in May. The main subject of the books areas are as follows: literature and cultural studies, language and linguistics, philosophy and religion, social sciences.
Among the titles now acquired there are books published in the 2010’s but also many older ones. The books can be browsed by subject categories in the PalgraveConnect interface.
If you find some titles important for your studies but not accessible to UH in the PalgraveConnect , make an acquisition proposal!
New Dawsonera Online Reader launched
Dawsonera launched new Online Reader in June 2015. New features includes note sharing and copy selections.

New Reference Work: Treatise on Geophysics
Treatise on Geophysics (2nd Edition) is a comprehensive and in-depth study of the physics of the Earth and of terrestrial-like planets residing both within and outside our solar system. Its breadth and detail of coverage are beyond what any single geophysics text can provide.
The first edition of the Treatise on Geophysics was published in 2007. In this new edition, the reader will find updates to all the chapters contained in the first edition and new chapters that discuss topics missing from the first edition which we have had in the Library’s printed collections.
Hundreds of New Computer Science eBooks from Springer
Springer Computer Science 2015 provides over 400 brand new eBooks in varying subdisciplines of computer science. There are books concerning theoretical aspects as well as varying applications.

Classic Arabic Texts Online Part 1 (CATO-1) offers access to approximately 19,000 pages of Brill editions of classic Arabic texts. All titles are full-text searchable in Arabic and accessible from a single point of entry. CATO-1 includes the following titles:
- Kitāb Futūḥ al-buldān (Arabic text, 87 chapters)
- Kitāb Futūḥ al-buldān: The Origins of the Islamic State (English text, 109 chapters)
- Mukhtaṣar Kitāb al-Buldān: Bibliotheca Geographorum Arabicorum (59 chapters, with indices and glossaries)

New Resource: Brill’s Encyclopedia of Hinduism
Brill’s Encyclopedia of Hinduism presents the latest research on all the main aspects of the Hindu traditions. Its essays are original work written by the world’s foremost scholars on Hinduism. Find eDictionaries through a new Guide!
MOT Dictionaries are largely known and used, at least basic dictionaries. There are, however, numerous MOT special dictionaries and term banks which may not be so well known or even noticed. Moreover, there are also other e-dictionaries in the Library’s e-collection than those in MOT.

Summer Reading Guaranteed!
If you belong to the staff or students of the University of Helsinki You will have summer reading enough. There are hundreds of quite new e-books acquired by the Library to choose from. The books are from respected publishers and they are almost in all fields of learning.
The new e-books most interesting to the staff and students of the City Centre Campus can be found among the e-books acquired from Palgrave, Taylor&Francis and Springer.
The staff and students of Kumpula, Meilahti and Viikki Campus may find relevant reading especially among the books acquired from Springer. CRC. and Mc Graw Hill (AccessMedicine)

The eBooks acquired by the Helsinki University Library are accessible to you if you have a valid user account for the University information systems. Among our eBooks there are numerous such ones which you can download on your mobile device to read them off-line if you are travelling in palaces without internet access.
