Pauliina Rautanen

I’m motivated by wanting to make a difference in the world through science. I’m especially interested in how new knowledge can empower people to improve their health and wellbeing. To me, discovering new insights about the way cells and genes work is an expression of creativity which I wish to share with the world.

I’m a Master’s student in Genetics and Molecular Biosciences, specializing in Molecular and Analytical Health Biosciences. In addition to theoretical knowledge and laboratory skills in life sciences, I’m expanding my experience in bioinformatics and programming. My strengths include flexibility, creativity, a good work ethic, and learning quickly.

My work experience includes participating in iGEM in 2018, being a lab assistant for a Molecular Biosciences course, and making educational videos in Digi Leap. In the future, I see myself researching topics related to health and aging and doing something that increases the accessibility of scientific knowledge.

Carlos Lapedriza

Final year student of the Biotechnology Bachelor’s program at the University of Lleida. Studying one year abroad as an Erasmus student at the University of Helsinki. With over 100 hours of labwork, I have experience in microbiology, genetics and genetic engineering,  cell and molecular biology, plant biotechnology and analitic techniques.

At the moment I am mostly interested in virlogy, molecular biology, genetics and how to aply those to medicine.  I am mainly open to part-time jobs, internships and summer jobs.

Susanna Linna

I am a B.Sc student of Molecular Biosciences at the University of Helsinki, aiming to start my masters degree in the Molecular and Analytical Health Biosciences (MAB) study track in 2019. I have a background in the corporate sector working as a laboratory technician, which has furthered my understanding of the practical skills required for people working in this field. I am looking for an internship or a part-time position that would allow me to advance my current skill sets and keep up with my studies.

During my academic career I have found a passion for human health, molecular pathogenesis of disease and the mechanisms that drive it. In my spare time, I am an avid reader and enthusiastic about movies, film theory and art.

Elina Niemeläinen

I am an aspiring health bioscience professional and a pharmacist. Working as a pharmacist has given me comprehensive view of the pharmaceutical field, and because of my studies in bioscience I also understand the molecular mechanisms of drugs.

Many years in student associations and in community pharmacy have taught me good group work and organisational skills. At work I’m a diligent and versatile worker who can go out of my way to help others. I learn fast, and I’m always aspiring to develop myself further. I’m not afraid to take on new challenges or to explore the unknown.

Suveda Maran

I am a Master’s degree student looking for research opportunities in Exosomes, gene therapy and immunology. I have worked in various research institutions in the fields of Extracellular Vesicles, gene therapy, protein homeostasis and tumour biology.

I am interested in the development of personalised therapeutic strategies for malignancies through the molecular profiling of the disease. The ”complete picture” approach of the disease can help us understand therapy resistance mechanisms, heterogeneity and drug sensitivity profiles of the different phenotypes. A soon to be Master’s graduate (Summer 2019) interested in innovative strategies for the diagnosis and treatment of cancers.

Vilja Jokinen

I am studying genetics at the University of Helsinki as a master’s student. Especially, I am interested in clinical diagnostics, cancer genetics, inheritance of diseases and forensic genetics. I intend to get my Master’s degree in Genetics and Molecular Biosciences in spring 2021. I have studied R and Python coding on a few courses, and I would love to learn more about bioinformatics and programming.

I am looking for a master’s thesis position in the field of genetics, genomics, clinical diagnostics or cancer research. I would like to start working for my master’s thesis in the spring or summer 2020. I have experience of laboratory work from two research groups. I worked at Biomedicum for the Alitalo lab (colorectal cancer team) and at the Institute of Biotechnology for Iwai group. I gained knowledge and practical skills of laboratory work. I also learned to schedule my work efficiently and to perform my tasks independently.
