About Me

I’m a University Researcher  in the astrophysics group at the University of Helsinki, where I have moved from the Institute for Computational Cosmology at Durham University. I work on numerical simulations of galaxy formation. My main interests are dwarf galaxies and the interactions between baryons and dark matter. A list of my publications is available on arXiv.

Previously, I was a PhD student at the Max-Planck Institute for Astrophysics in Garching, Germany, under the supervision of Simon White. You can download an electronic copy of my thesis entitled “Simulations of Dwarf Galaxy Formation” at the LMU library. I studied physics at Imperial College London in the UK and at the École polytechnique fédérale de Lausanne in Switzerland, where my master thesis was supervised by Pascale Jablonka. I was also a summer student at Imperial with Jorick Vink, and a summer student at CERN. I am grateful for the support from the Studienstiftung.

Outside research, I am regularly teaching summer schools at the Deutsche Schülerakademie. Past topics include the philosophy of science applied to computer simulations, numerical models of climate change, and the physics of social systems. Course materials should be online shortly.

I have  run with the Elvet Striders and previously TSV Ismaning – currently looking for a club in Helsinki.
