The application time for incoming exchange students for the spring semester 2014 ended 15.10.2013!

Thank you all for applying! If your exchange application is approved, you will receive your Acceptance Letter by e-mail, sent by your host faculty. Acceptance information is usually available in the beginning of December at the latest. Before that your application is considered by your host faculty. Please try to be patient until that!

In addition to the Acceptance e-mail, university bilateral exchange and ISEP, AEN, MAUI and North2North exchange students (not Erasmus SMS, Nordplus etc.) will also receive an Acceptance Letter from the International Exchange Services. This letter is always sent to the coordinator of your home university, and it is needed for Residence Permit application. Happy Aleksis Kivi’s Day! Today is a birthday of the National writer Aleksis Kivi; the occasion is also celebrated as the Day of Finnish literature.

Aleksis Kivi, originally Alexis Stenvall, (1834-1872), was a Finnish national author and poet, creator of modern Finnish literature. His major novel, Seitsemän veljestä “The seven brothers” (1870), the classic of Finnish culture, has been translated into several languages. Ciné Developé Film Festival 7-11 October 2013

As a part of the Development Cooperation Week, Cine Developé Film Festival, a five-day long documentary film festival, will take place at the university and present long and short documentaries from all over the world. Organized by the Committee for Development Cooperation of HYY, the themes of this year are employment and development.

There will be 13 documentary screenings, as well as master classes and panel discussions during the week. All events are free of charge and free beverages will be served. Unless stated otherwise, the events take place at Mannerheim Hall of the New Student House (Uusi Ylioppilastalo, Mannerheimintie 5 A).

Farmer’s Market, workshops and much more at Viikki campus

Foodycle – a two-day food festival at Viikki campus and Suvilahti on September 12th-13th brings together academics, artists and grassroots organisations from different fields to experience and discuss sustainable food production.

At the festival you can buy fresh food from local farmers and entrepreneurs, join hands-on workshops and panel discussions and even take a tour at the Viikki farm. The festival combines both theory and practice offering a scientific point of view on sustainable food production as well as tools for participants to contribute to improving our food system.

Experiencing Finland – event for newly arrived university staff, Phd students and family members

Are you a new international staff member or a PhD student at the University? Come and learn more about the Finnish culture and traditions, and meet colleagues from Aalto University and University of Helsinki!

The Experiencing Finland event touches topics like Experiencing Autumn and Winter in Finland, How to Effectively Communicate and Socialize with Finns, Finland with Children and Working with Finns.

Family members are most welcome and coffee, tea and a cinnamon buns (korvapuusti in Finnish) will be served upon arrival!
