The operations of the Helsinki Think Company entrepreneurial community are expanding from the City Centre Campus to Viikki. The premises, which bring together students, researchers and entrepreneurs, offer possibilities to network and refine new ideas into business operations.

Helsinki Think Company started as a collaborative effort between the City of Helsinki and the University of Helsinki and during its first year, it has helped tens of business teams. The Orientation Handbook is now available online!

The Orientation Handbook for the academic year 2014-15 is now available online. The handbook contains a lot of practical information that will help you get started with your student life and to navigate through daily life. It includes for example general information about living in Finland and studying in the University of Helsinki.

A printed copy will be given to all new international students at the Welcome Fair in August 2014.

Intensive Finnish for False Beginners – course in August for Master’s students at UH

Have you had the chance to study Finnish yet? Do you find it is difficult to find time to study Finnish while being busy with other studies?

In August 2014 the Finnish department at the University of Helsinki are offering a Finnish language course for UH masters’ students who due to schedule issues have not been able to attend Finnish classes so far.

Registration ends on June 16th, 2014.

Helsinki stole my heart and transformed me from Erasmus to Master’s Degree Student

katarinaThe beginning of my international master story dates back to the spring of 2011 when I was deciding where to spend my next semester as an Erasmus exchange student. After a very long consideration of all the other possibilities, I chose Helsinki, a nice city with a well-known university. From the point of view of a real ice-hockey fan, Finland itself seemed like a very interesting country and promised a lot of unforgettable experiences. The world will come to us in August

Last year, approximately 400 students from over 60 countries took part in the courses organised by the Helsinki Summer School.

HSS Katajanokka-14_isoThis August, the Helsinki Summer School will again provide international students with the opportunity to try out Finnish university studies with its three-week summer courses. University of Helsinki students can also apply.

This year marks the 15th annual Helsinki Summer School. The courses cover several disciplines and are offered by different universities. The participating universities for the second year in a row will be the University of Helsinki, Aalto University and the Hanken School of Economics. Top-level summer course on ecosystem services

The European Campus of Excellence gathers top teachers to Helsinki next summer. The three-week course will admit 25 students.

The University of Helsinki has been given the responsibility to organise the European Campus of Excellence (ECE) course this summer. The three-week course, Measuring and Valuing Ecosystem Services, uses methods from agricultural and forest sciences as well as social sciences to focus on ecosystem services from a multidisciplinary perspective. Alumni buddies! It pays to involve alumni in the University’s activities

Pia Österman is a busy lady. She is executive manager of the University of Helsinki Alumni Association, a community with more than 5,000 members. The association has some 300 Swedish-speaking members and is completely bilingual.
