Do you need help in your research or thesis writing process? Are you challenged with the overwhelming volume of published scientific research? Join the workshop at your campus and get started with Iris.ai – your science assistant.

The Iris.ai team will guide you how to semi-automate the discovery and literature review parts of your research process. In this workshop you’ll learn to create your first exploration maps, refine the results, and compile a reading list with the help of the artificial intelligence assistant.

Who is it for?

The event is open and free for all University of Helsinki students, researchers and staff members. During the 2-hour workshop you will see a demo of how to get started with your Iris.ai Premium account and put the tools to the test. This is also a great opportunity to ask questions and receive invaluable support from Iris.ai team.

Information Seeking and Management for Master’s Thesis Writer
This course is primarily aimed at students preparing to start working on their master’s thesis. However, the course is open free of charge to everybody that are interested in the topic.

As a course prerequisite, it is recommended to recap the University of Helsinki Student’s Digital Skills (formerly ICT Driving License) information seeking content before joining this course.

The course helps you to seek information, manage references and evaluate sources in a manner relevant to your thesis. In addition, you will be able to identify the most common indicators used in research evaluation, define the legal and ethical use of information resources and understand the basics of Open Science.

Log in using your University of Helsinki account using Haka login.

If you do not have an account from a Finnish university or research institute, you create a new user ID on mooc.helsinki.fi.

If you log in as a guest, you can only look at the course material and not participate in the course.

The renewed Kumpula Campus Library opens on 3 September, 2018

The Kumpula Campus Library will open on Monday 3 September, 2018: The first floor will be available with its collections, facilities and services from Monday, but the second floor continues to be closed for renovation until the end of October.

 

 

Note these changes on the 1st floor

  • The Examinarium electronic exam room has moved from the library to Chemicum (first floor, room A122).
  • New self-service loan and return station is located next to the library entrance.
  • Former group work room G108d has been turned into a silent reading room. In other words, there are two silent reading rooms next to each other at back corner of the floor.
  • There are now four group work rooms on the first floor: G108a, G103c, G103e and G103g. Remember to reserve the group work room using your O365 calendar. Reservations are not taken at the library service desk.
  • The former staff area on the left side of the entrance is now a group work area, which can be used without booking. Textbooks and reference books that may not be checked out are also located in this area.

The second floor is still closed

The second floor of the Kumpula Campus Library is still closed in September, as the renovation will continue there until the end of October 2018.

Faculty of Science personnel’s 24h access to the Kumpula campus library ended on 18 May, 2018. From now on, the library’s facilities are available to faculty staff during opening hours.

The Autumn Term Opening Hours begin on 27.8.

Summer time is coming to an end and the Autumn opening hours will start on August 27th 2018 apart from Kumpula campus library, which opens a week later on the September the 3rd.

The Opening Hours for the Libraries:

  • Main Library Kaisa House: Mon-Fri 8-20 and Sat 11-17. Customer service Mon-Fri 10-19, Sat 11-17.
  • Kumpula: (Note! Opens on 3rd of September) Mon-Fri 8-18. Customer service 10-17.
  • Terkko: Mon-Fri 8-20. Customer service 10-17.
  • Viikki: Mon-Fri 8-19. Customer service 10-17.

From September 16th until November 25th the Main Library will be open on Sundays from 11 am to 5 pm, with the exception of the weekend of All Saints’ Day 3.-4.11. during which the whole building will be closed.

Dead Sea Scrolls Electronic Library  is available in the University of Helsinki network until the 18th September 2018.

For the first time in history the texts and images of all the Dead Sea Scrolls – both Biblical texts and Non-Biblical texts – are available in their totality on the Internet.

The databases are based on the Dead Sea Scrolls Electronic Library CD-ROM, published by Brill and Brigham Young University. Both databases present a complete Hebrew transcription and English translation of texts, together with high-resolution images.

Academy of Finland September 2018 call  is open 10.9.-1.10.2018. Helsinki University Data Support´s commenting service is available University of Helsinki researchers who wish their data management plan (DMP) to be checked and commented. Please, email your DMP at the latest 19 September to datasupport@helsinki.fi. The sooner the better. Plans are handled in arrival order.

Campus libraries in Meilahti and Viikki are open again. Please notice that these libraries still are open under summer opening hours (Mon-Fri 9-16) until August 26th.

Opening hours during fall semester (August 27th – December 16th, 2018)

Helsinki University Library is back to normal opening hours on Monday August 27th, with the exception of Kumpula Campus Library which opens on Monday September 3th.

Kumpula Campus Library from September 3th open Mon-Fri 8-18, customer service desk Mon-Fri 10-17. During the rest of the opening hours library operates as Self-Service Library.
