UniSport Kluuvin kuvitukset tsemppaavat treenaamaan huumorin kautta

Uuden UniSport Kluuvin seiniltä löytyvät hahmot eivät ole salimaailmasta tuttuja pullistelijoita. Sen sijaan kuvituksissa seikkailevat liikunnasta ja toistensa seurasta nauttivia tyyppejä.

Jo aikaisin suunnitteluvaiheessa päätettiin, että liikuntakeskukseen lähdetään hakemaan opiskelijoiden näköistä ilmettä. Yliopistollinen yhteistyö tuntui luontaiselta ratkaisulta, ja oikea tekijä löytyikin Aallosta. Liikuntakeskuksen seiniä koristaa nyt Robert Lönnqvistin kuvitukset ja opasteet.

– Huumorin avulla pyrin luomaan tilaan tunnelman, joka muistuttaa siitä, ettei treeniä tarvitse ottaa liian vakavasti, vaan siitä pitää myös muistaa nauttia, sanoo Robert Lönnqvist.

UniSport Kluuvin kuvituksista haluttiin UniSportin näköisiä, ja niistä huokuukin liikunnan ilo ja yhteisöllisyys. Sisäpyöräilysalin kuvituksissa pyöräillään pääkaupunkiseudun yliopistokampusten läpi: Otaniemen päärakennukselta Helsingin ydinkeskustan läpi aina Kumpulan siirtolapuutarhaan.

– Luonnosvaiheessa keskustelimme paljon UniSportin arvoista, kuten rohkeudesta, tasavertaisuudesta ja yhteisöllisyydestä. Hahmojen ulkonäöllä ei haluttu korostaa nykyisiä kauneusihanteita tai pyrkiä täydellisyyteen. Kuvitukset ovatkin aika lailla Michelangelon David-patsaan vastakohtia: mittasuhteet ja anatomia ovat jotain vähän sinnepäin. Yleensä hahmoilla on ohuet raajat, mutta muuten pyöreät muodot. Kuitenkin heidän ilmeensä kertovat heidän treenaavan toisissaan ja nauttivan toistensa seurasta, Robert kertoo hahmoistaan.

Kuvitukset ovat pääosin kaikki maalattu tilaan käsin, muutamia ikkunateippauksia lukuun ottamatta. Kuvitukset kestävät aikaa ja niiden värimaailma peilaa salivarusteiden palettia.

Robert on valmistunut graafiseksi suunnittelijaksi Lahden muotoiluinstituutista ja työstää nyt visuaalisen viestinnän muotoilun maisteritutkintoa Aalto yliopistossa. Aikaisemmin hän on tehnyt kuvituksia monille lehdille ja esimerkiksi toteuttanut satametrisen seinämaalauksen Flow-festivaaleille yhdessä kuuden muun Aalto-opiskelijan kanssa.
