For Doctoral Researchers

Target group: Postgraduate researchers at the University of Helsinki (max 20 students), prioritising doctoral researchers from educational sciences.

Course credit: 5 cr. The course credit can be applied for in Sisu after the course with the code SED-913 Relevant Theories and Approaches.

Grading scale: Pass-Fail

Responsible teachers for course: Coordinators of the Education & Society-research unit, Faculty of Educational Sciences: Professor Kristiina Brunila, AGORA and Associate professor Janne Varjo, KUPOLI.

Enrolment: You can enrol on the course by sending an email to kirsi.yliniva@helsinki.fi with your name, doctoral programme and email-address by Monday 26th of September. No registration in Sisu.

Completion method: Passing the course requires active participation in the lectures, preparing questions for the visiting lecturers, and writing a 15-page scientific essay that utilizes and engages with the themes and topics of the lecture series and suggested readings. Essay deadline is December 31st, 2022. The final paper is sent to kirsi.yliniva@helsinki.fi. All accepted scientific essays will be published on the FuturEducation website.

Reading list: The suggested readings mentioned below each lecture description are a compulsory part of the course and should be read in advance to prepare questions for the lecturers.
