Birger Stichelbaut

Dr. Birger Stichelbaut obtained his PhD in archaeology (FWO 2005-2009) at Ghent University in 2009. Since then, he coordinates the aerial photographic research as a postdoctoral researcher. His research focuses on the study of material remains and landscapes of war using non invasive remote sensing techniques and mainly historical aerial photographs. Besides scientific research he is also involved in the In Flanders Fields Museum in Ypres working on the aspect of the ‘landscape as the Last Witness’ and recently curated a major exhibition on WW1 conflict archaeology.
