Albrecht Cordes is professor of Medieval and Early Modern Legal History and Civil Law at the Goethe University Frankfurt/Main. His research activities focus on late medieval and early modern legal history, and specially on the history of commercial law, the legal history of the Hanseatic League and on the history of extrajudicial and judicial conflict resolution, in particular with a view to the Imperial Chamber Court of the Holy Roman Empire. He is director of the Institute for legal history at the Goethe University, board member of the Hansischer Geschichtsverein and of the German Study Centre in Venice, and member of the steering committee (in 2013 also speaker) of the LOEWE Research Focus “Extrajudicial and Judicial Conflict Resolution”. Since 2015 he leads a subproject in the special research project (SFB) 1095 “Schwächediskurse und Ressourcenregime”. Cordes is member of the editorial board of the internet journal forum historiae iuris and co-editor of the dictionary “Handwörterbuch zur deutschen Rechtsgeschichte”.
