Ulla Ijäs

Ulla Ijäs has finished her PhD thesis at the University of Turku, The School of History, Culture and Arts Studies in June 2015. Her research interests are merchant houses in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, merchant networks, migration, towns, gender and consumption. In this project, she will study the modernisation of commercial law from the point of view of a particular, concrete commercial actor, the Hackman company in nineteenth century Finland, particularly in Vyborg. Ijäs is responsible for a detailed study on the commercial practices of the company insofar as the dispute resolution, litigation, and legal practices of the company are concerned.
