Heikki Pihlajamäki

Heikki Pihlajamäki is Professor of Comparative Legal History at the Faculty of Law, University of Helsinki. He has written on themes such as the history of evidence law and lay judges, police law, and different aspects related to the history of criminal law. Recently, his interests have increasingly shifted towards the history of commercial law and the theory of comparative legal history. Comparative aspects have been important throughout his production, and geographically his work comprises not only Scandinavia and Europe, but also the United States and Latin America. Pihlajamäki is one of the founders and the Articles Editor of the journal  Comparative Legal History (Hart Publishing).

Pihlajamäki is a member of the Finnish Academy of Science and Letters and of the Teachers’  Academy of the University of Helsinki.
