Moodle will be upgraded to version 3.11 on December 29th, 2021, from 8 AM to 5 PM. During this time, Moodle is closed and cannot be logged into. The update may not take the whole day, but the time is reserved as a precaution to prepare for potential update issues and fixes.

New possibilities for Student activity completion
Activity completion lets students and teachers see the progress through their Moodle course. When this feature is enabled, it is a helpful way for students to be able to track there progress in a course. The student has an easy to see checklist of what they have done so far. It can also be linked to Restrict access in order to allow the teacher to set criteria upon which a student is allowed to progress through a course and access materials. What’s new?
For students:
- Activity dates and Activity completion conditions may be shown on the course page and within activities: activity dates and Activity completion conditions are shown at the top of the activity page.
- Students can mark an activity as complete from within the activity itself when using the manual completion.See Student’s Moodle Guide
For teachers:
- New display settings: New settings allow teachers to hide or show activity dates and completion conditions on the course page.
- Improved activity completion report: The activity completion report may be filtered by activity and activity order.

Improve the accessibility in your Moodle course with a new toolkit!
Moodle 3.11 brings with it a new accessibility toolkit for teachers to use to improve the accessibility of their own Moodle area. The toolkit identifies and pinpoints some of the most common accessibility issues in different types of content (text, pictures, links etc.).
Accessible online content can be used easily by different types of users. This means it is easy to navigate, all content is understandable and can be accessed using assistive technology. Different groups of users are taken into account when designing new content.
The toolkit includes
- an error list with direct links, which makes it really easy to navigate to their location and fix them.
- Activity breakdown, showing pass ratios per activity
- Content types, showing error counts per type of content
- Summary report, showing a summary of the other reports combined
An accessibility review block can be added to a course to display useful information to the teacher on the landing page. The block includes a heatmap that makes it easier to visualize the problematic areas.
You can request an analysis of any course you are teaching. As you edit your course area, the report updates automatically after the initial analysis has been run.

Three desired updates in Quiz-activity
There will be three desired updates to the Quiz-activity in Moodle 3.11: word counter and Ouriginal plagiarism detection for the essay question type, and retaining the default settings of the questions from the previous question to the next question.
Student view:
- If the word limits set for the essay are not met, the student will see that their answer is incomplete because the answer is too short or long.
For the teacher:
- Set word limit to essay-type questions. During grading the teacher can clearly see, whether the students have followed the word restrictions or not.
- Ouriginal plagiarism checker compares the student’s answer to external and Ouriginal sources. See Ouriginal instructions (from Instructions for Teachers) .
- Setting changes made by question type e.g. in the default points and word limits follow from the previous question, speeding up e.g. importing questions of the same type and points into Moodle.
