The support services of Moodle on vacation during weeks 29-31

Summer holidays are coming! The support services of Moodle are also on vacation during forthcoming weeks, especially at the end of July. We are, unfortunately, not able to answer any Moodle questions or the requests of new course areas during the weeks 29 – 31.

All questions sent to ok-moodle@helsinki.fi during the summertime will be answered at the beginning of August, retrospectively, in the order of arrival. Despite, there will be longer delays in answering times than usually. Therefore we kindly ask you to act before the holiday time. If you need a new course area or have something to ask us about Moodle, please send your requests to us at the beginning of July at the latest!

Happy summertime to all our Moodle-users!

Why don’t I see all my courses in Course overview?

The Moodle update on 10th June 2013 brought new features to Course overview. It is now possible for each user to edit the course list and thus personalize their view based on needs! Note that no course areas have been disappeared in the update.

The default setting for Course overview is to show 10 course areas in the list. If you have more than 10 course areas in Moodle and want them all to be shown in the list, edit the page:

  • On My home page, click on the Customise this page button
  • Select Always Show all in the drop-down menu
  • Edit the order of course areas in the list by dragging-and-dropping the corresponding arrow icons.
  • Click on the Stop customising this page button.

Moodle is now updated and back in use!

Moodle is now updated to a new version (Moodle 2.4.4+). Service break took only about an hour. This means that Moodle is now back in normal use.

The new Moodle version brings along few cosmetic improvements and some new features which will be handled in detail in UH Moodle guides during summer 2013.

Please contact ok-moodle@helsinki.fi if you have any questions about Moodle.

Moodle will be updated on 10th June 2013 at 10:00-14:00 (service break!).

Moodle will be updated to version 2.4 and is out of use on Monday the 10th of June 2013 starting at 10:00. The estimated duration of service break is four hours. Moodle should be in normal use again at 14:00 (possibly earlier). Please take the service break into account when planning teaching and learning in Moodle at this time.

There will be no drastic changes to Moodle, mostly small improvements such as visual updates (new core icons). Another improvement is a possibility to edit the course overview list at “My Home” page.

Moodle news feed to email

The blog Moodle news at UH has moved to the address https://blogs.helsinki.fi/moodle-news/. At the same time, the blog supports multilangual content and browsing; users can now select what language to use. But note that all entries are not published in all three languages; Finnish is the main language in the future as well.

Another new feature is that you can now subscribe to the news feed in your email. This feed-to-email feature replaces the old mailing list moodle-tiedotus@helsinki.fi that is going to be deleted. Because the blog entries are published in three languages, you can subscribe to any or all of the three separate feeds. You’ll find the links to the email subscription on the main page in the right hand side bar.
