This work package explores the cultural transformation of populism from the perspective of “gender populism” as a backlash against gender equality. Promoting traditional gender orders has recently gained prominence in the European context. The work package will make comparative analyses of internet discussions and the mainstream media in Finland, France, the Netherlands and Sweden, i.e. two countries known for their greater gender equality and two countries where gender roles are more traditional with regard to, for example, the percentage of women in politics or in the labour market.
