T-Bone Slim – New Interpretations / Uusia tulkintoja
What: Night of the Arts 2022 event: New interpretations and research on the life and writings of “T-Bone Slim” (Matti Valentinpoika Huhta)
Where: Topelia courtyard, University of Helsinki (Unioninkatu 38)
When: 18 August 2022, at 18:00
In 2017, John Westmoreland discovered a family archive of T-Bone Slim’s unpublished songs and set out to compose music to accompany the lyrics. Production of the album was completed earlier this year, just before the 80th anniversary of T-Bone Slim’s mysterious demise in the East River of Manhattan in 1942. All these decades later the lost voice of T-Bone Slim is as relevant and timely as ever, and Westmoreland seeks to honor his music and legacy, with the release of the new album, Resurrection.
In this event, Kirsti Salmi-Niklander will present the project funded by the Kone Foundation, followed by a performance of T-Bone Slim’s songs and poems by T-Bone Slim’s relative, musician John Westmoreland together with the band Luode and Emmi Kuittinen. The event is organized in collaboration with the University of Helsinki and Thirsty Scholar.
Enjoy the gig with a drink from the bar and sit in Thirsty Scholar’s terrace or bring a picnic blanket and sit in the beautiful Topelia garden with your own snacks.
You are warmly welcome to listen to our new interpretations!
