Petteri Muukkonen selected to the Teach­ers’ Academy

The university of Helsinki announced that six new members to the Teach­ers’ Academy are selected. See the original news here. Geographer and university lecturer Petteri Muukkonen was one of the selected six teachers. The next selection round will be in the year 2022.

A total of 62 applications to the Teachers’ Academy were received by the deadline of 5
October 2020 (source: rector’s decision 18.12.2020). Applications were received from all faculties. As a group, the applicants were highly qualified.

Six new fellows give the impression of being dedicated to their profession and to the systematic development of teaching. Their activities reflect vision, creativity, thorough pedagogical competence and insight, and the willingness to focus on the student. The selected fellows have shared their expertise widely within the university as well as in national and international forums.

The new fellows of the Teachers’ Academy genuinely involve their students in the construction of teaching, learning and assessment situations and in the development of teaching. Their teaching and supervision practices are innovative and pedagogically justified, and they convey an understanding of the constructive alignment of teaching. They all have solid evidence of producing innovative learning materials and of making use of the new digital learning environments.

All the selected fellows have embraced collegiality in diverse ways and are known as key developers of teaching in their own fields. They are active players on the degree programme and faculty levels and almost without exception on the university level as well, not to mention in international forums. Their activities have had an undeniable effect on the collaborative development of teaching.
