We hope you’ve had a great summer holiday and are fresh and ready to start the new academic year 2020/21! We at the HYY Environmental Committee are also back from our holidays and excitedly planning the upcoming semester’s activities.
We kicked the term off with a picnic at Kaivopuisto last Monday, featuring some vegan snacks and plenty of sunshine. It felt good to catch up with each other face-to-face for the first time in a while, as well as exchange our latest sustainability swaps and adventures — Sara, one of our members, took part in Ilmasto Seikkailu’s (Climate Adventure) sailing trip in July, where they had got to brainstorm and discuss sustainable travel in a series of workshops. Stay tuned to hear more about this soon!
Iida, the Environmental Committee’s chairperson shared some thoughts with us about the upcoming semester;
”I am very much looking forward to this new semester and I believe that we’ll get the chance to do some important things on behalf of the environment. Zero Waste September is a particularly important campaign now, more than ever, in the middle of the pandemic. The semester will look a little different because of the coronavirus situation, but I hope that we’ll be able to get people excited and involved nonetheless.”
Are you interested in environmental issues or curious about what kinds of things we do? Join us on today, on Tuesday 18th August at 18:00 for the first Committee Meeting of the term, held online in line with the university’s corona restrictions. You’ll hear more about our plans for the upcoming Zero Waste September campaign as well what else we have in store for the rest of the semester. We look forward to welcoming you there!
