Tuuli Holttinen


Doctoral student Tuuli Holttinen’s (Department of Modern Languages, University of Helsinki) dissertation project deals with the development of pragmatic competence in a foreign language. Her study focuses on the development of request strategies among Finnish French as a foreign language speakers. In addition, the project offers a contrastive analysis of Finnish and French request strategies in service encounters. The theoretical framework of the study includes theories on interlanguage pragmatics, speech acts and politeness.
