PhD, docent Ulla Tuomarla defended her thesis in French philology. The framework of her studies comes from discourse analysis and interactional linguistics. She is interested in the relationship between language and emotions, and she is carrying out a project which concerns verbal aggression in on-line discussion boards. Other topics concern quotations and heteroglossia in journalism texts as part of argumentation, similarities and dissimilarities of written and spoken language, and culture-related phenomena as challenges of translation.
