Kuinka ilmoittautua SISU:ssa SUST-001 Kestävyyskurssille?/How to register to the SUST-001 Sustainability course in SISU?

Kestävyyskurssin ilmoittautuminen periodille II on nyt auki! Tästä pääset Studies sivulle, josta löydät linkin ilmoittautumiseen.

Helsingin yliopistossa on käytössä Sisu järjestelmän, jonka kautta opintojen suunnittelu ja kurssi-ilmoittautuminen hoidetaan. Koska kestävyyskurssi on vapaavalintainen kurssi, se ei löydy automaattisesti kenenkään opintosuunnitelmasta. Haluamme tarjota ohjeet kurssin lisäämiseksi ensisijaiseen opintosuunnitelmaan ja ilmoittautumiseen.

1. Mene Sisussa ensisijaiseen opintosuunnitelmaasi ja klikkaa sitä moduulia, johon haluat sijoittaa kestävyyskurssin. (esim. vapaavalintaiset opinnot/muut opinnot)

2. Valitse hakusarake “lisää suunnitelmaan” ja etsi SUST-001. Klikkaamalla hakutulosta kurssi lisätään suunnitelmaasi.

3. Seuraavaksi valitaan suoritustapa. Klikkaa auki kurssiesite painamalla kurssia suunnitelmassasi.

4. Tarkista kurssin nimen alla olevasta valikosta, että sinulla on valittuna vuosien 21–22, 22–23 toteutus. Vaihda vuosi tarvittaessa.

5. Valitse kurssiesitteestä välilehti “Suoritustavat” ja valitse Tapa 1. Huomioithan, että perustutkinto-opiskelijana valitset tämän tavan, etkä esimerkiksi avoimen yliopiston tapaa. Vahvista valinta painamalla vihreää “Valitse tämä tapa”-painiketta sivun keskellä.

6. Edellisen valinnan jälkeen oikean reunan ”valitse” -painike muuttuu siniseksi, painamalla sitä vahvistat tavan ”osallistuminen opetukseen”. Seuraavana ilmoittautuminen.

7. Sivun yläreunaan pitäisi ilmestyä banneri, josta voit siirtyä ilmoittautumiseen. Jos banneri ei ilmesty pääset samaan paikkaan Sisun päävalikon opintokalenterista.

8. Kurssi pitäisi löytyä “ilmoittautuminen ja opetus” valikosta. Paina “Ilmoittaudu”

9. Sen jälkeen avautuvassa ikkunassa paina “vahvista”. Jos kurssi on ensisijaisessa opintosuunnitelmassasi ja kurssilla on tilaa sinut hyväksytään kurssille automaattisesti. 

10. Hienoa! Olet nyt onnistuneesti ilmoittautunut kestävyyskurssille. Tervetuloa! 

INSTRUCTIONS IN ENGLISH

Enrollment for the Sustainability course for period II is open now! From studies page you can find the link to the enrollment and more info about the course.

The University of Helsinki has rolled out a new SISU system for study planning and course enrollment. Since the Sustainability course is optional it is not included anyone’s study plan by default. Because of that, we want to provide you with a step by step guide on how to add the course to your primary study plan and enroll successfully. 

1. Go to your primary study plan and choose the module in which you want to include the Sustainability course. (For example, other studies) 

2. Choose search tool ”add to the plan” and search SUST-001. By clicking the search result the course will be added to your plan automatically.

3. Next you need to choose the completion method. Press the name of the course in your study plan and the course info will open. 

4. Check that you have the right academic year selected if not change it to 2021-2022, 2022-2023.

5. Go to the page” Completion Methods” and chose “Method 1”. Please note: do not choose the open university method if you’re a student in University of Helsinki. Then confirm the method by choosing the green button saying “select this completion method”.

6. After the latest step ”select” button in the right will change its colour to blue and by choosing it you confirm the completion method.

7. After these two confirmations a blue banner should appear at the top of the screen including the link to registration. If not, you can always go to the same place by choosing “study calendar” from SISU main menubar.

8. You should be able to find the course from the registration menu, if so click “register”.

9. After that new registration window opens. Choose “confirm”. If the course is in your primary study plan and there is spaces left you will be automatically added to the course. 

10. Great! You have now successfully added the Sustainability course to your  study plan and registered. Welcome to the course!

Kestävän kehityksen osaamisen merkitys kasvaa tulevaisuudessa. Oletko kiinnostunut kestävyydestä kulttuurin, politiikan tai ympäristönsuojelun näkökulmasta? Osaajia tarvitaan kaikilla aloilla enemmän kuin koskaan.  

Tervetuloa Helsingin yliopiston monitieteiselle Kestävyyskurssille toisessa periodissa 31.10.–18.12.2022. Kurssisisältöjä kehitetään vielä, joten sinulla on erinomainen mahdollisuus vaikuttaa siihen, millaista kestävyysopetus yliopistossa on tulevaisuudessa. Mukana opetusmateriaalien laatimisessa on ollut yli 160 yliopiston tutkijaa, opettajaa ja opiskelijaa, mutta jotta kurssi palvelisi opiskelijoita mahdollisimman hyvin, opiskelijoiden antamaa kurssipalautetta hyödynnetään Kestävyyskurssin kehittämisessä. 

Kurssi on suunniteltu kaikkien tieteenalojen opiskelijoille. Kurssilla tutustutaan kestävyyskysymysten kompleksisuuteen ja monitieteisyyteen, sekä niiden eettisiin ja filosofisiin ulottuvuuksiin. Kurssilla ohjataan pohtimaan omaa roolia tulevana asiantuntijana ja yhteiskunnan jäsenenä kestävyyskysymysten ratkaisemisessa sekä tarjotaan työkaluja omalle toimijuudelle. Lisäksi kurssilla tutustutaan, miten kestävyysmurrosta voidaan edistää eri näkökulmista, joita ovat globaalien luonnonjärjestelmien turvaaminen, hyvinvointi ja mahdollisuudet muutokseen, kestävä ja oikeudenmukainen talous, kestävä ja terveellinen ruokajärjestelmä, ilmastonmuutos ja oikeudenmukainen energiasiirtymä sekä kaupunkiseutujen kehitys.   

Kurssi on verkkokurssi, ja se järjestetään moodle.helsinki.fi -alustalla. Kurssin yhteiset tapaamiset järjestetään Zoomissa. Katso kurssisivulta tarkemmat tiedot kurssin kulusta. Moduulit koostuvat lukemistosta, videoista sekä oppimista tukevista verkkoaktiviteeteista, kuten ryhmäkeskusteluista, tiedonanalysointitehtävistä, testeistä ja projektityöskentelystä. Kurssi on 3 opintopisteen laajuinen ja osallistujien määrä on rajattu 300 osallistujaan. Kurssin ilmoittautuminen päättyy perjantaina 28.10.2022.

How to register for the course on SISU  

The role of sustainability experts is becoming more emphasized in the society. Consequently, there is an increasing need to develop competence in sustainability as the concern towards sustainability issues grows. Whether your passion is culture, politics or environmental protection, your solutions are needed more than ever.  

Welcome to the new multidisciplinary Sustainability course of University of Helsinki in the second period (31.10.–18.12.2022). The course content will be developed during the semester, so you will have a unique opportunity to influence the future of sustainability education at the University.  Over 160 university researchers, teachers and students have been developing the course materials. We use students’ feedback for developing the course further. 

The course is designed for students from all disciplines. The course will introduce you to the complexity and multidisciplinary of sustainability issues, along with their ethical and philosophical dimensions. The course will guide you to consider your role as a future professional and a member of society in solving sustainability issues and provides you with tools for your own work. In addition, the course explores different perspectives of sustainability, like protecting global environmental commons, human well-being and capabilities, sustainable and just economies, sustainable food systems and healthy nutrition, climate change and just energy transitions, and urban and peri-urban development.    

The course is an online course and organized on the moodle.helsinki.fi platform. Course meetings are arranged in Zoom. Check more specific information on the course studies page. The modules consist of online activities such as readings, videos, group discussions, data analysis tasks, quizzes, and project work. The course is worth of 3 credits and the number of participants is limited to 300 students. Registration for the course ends on Friday 28.10.2022.  

Please note that in the course minor part of the learning materials are in Finnish, but you are more than welcome to take the course even if you do not speak Finnish.

Meet the new HELSUS trainees!

Two new trainees and a non-military service person started their internships with HELSUS at the beginning of this fall. Read their introductions below to get to know them better.

Hi! My name is Lina Wilson and I am a new trainee at HELSUS for autumn 2022. I will be working with communication related to HELSUS seminars, social media, website updates and content creation. My background is in Environmental and Marine Biology, currently I’m studying in the ECGS Master’s program. My first experience with HELSUS was working at the Science Sustainability Days conference last Spring as a Student assistant. The sessions and topics were really interesting and it was fun being a bit behind the scenes in arranging the event. Now I get to do that even more which I’m excited about!

In my studies, I’m focusing on Northern Ecosystems and the changes that happen there. I’m passionate about the well-being of nature and want to inspire people around me to think about their relationship with nature and what they can do to create a better world, especially in their everyday life. Therefore I’ve together with a friend created a sustainability account and blog (@klimatkompisar), as well as been part of arranging different climate events at my former University. In my free time, I enjoy horse riding, singing and spending time outdoors. I’m very happy to be here at HELSUS and looking forward to all the new experiences that lie ahead!

Hi and nice to meet you! I’m Mesi Salonmaa and I’m a new HELSUS trainee for fall 2022. My responsibilities at HELSUS are mainly focused on developing, organizing and teaching the Sustainability Course but you might also see me working on various other things during this fall. I’m on my second year of studying General and Adult Education in the faculty of Educational Sciences. In my studies I focus on equality issues in education and social sciences along with environmental sciences. I’ve also obtained a degree on youth work and used to work as a youth leader before starting my Bachelor’s degree at the university. I am still fairly new on the field of sustainability but I’m looking forward to broadening my knowledge and experiences regarding it as well as all the other exciting themes I’ll come across during my time with HELSUS. I want to be part of building a more sustainable future and present day through inclusive and environmentally conscious education. 

I’m the kind of person who gets excited over new things and themes constantly so in my free time I love to indulge in learning about anything that interests me e.g. insects, biodiversity, video games and education. I paint and draw too, as well as try out new forms of self-expression through music or fiber arts or just anything I find exciting at the moment. I look forward to meeting everyone at HELSUS and getting to work with other people passionate about sustainability. I hope to learn more and have fun this fall as well as be part of making the world even a bit more sustainable along the way.  

Hello! My name is Amos Wallgren and I am the new HELSUS non-military service person for 2022/2023. My responsibilities at HELSUS are mostly focused on coordinating the Co-Creation Lab but I am also looking forward to working on various other tasks with my new co-workers. I’m a master’s student in the Politics and Communication master’s program in the Faculty of Social Sciences. Beside my studies I am a climate justice activist, involved especially in activities pushing for the quick phasing out of fossil fuels with the support of non-violent direct action as well as long term civilizational change, topics on which I have published an essay in the book Viimeinen Siirto (ed. Teemu Vaarakallio, S&S 2021). I also work part time as a policy consultant for eclareon GmbH on renewable energy policy developments in Finland and Sweden with the European Commission as main client.

My interests are found in the intersections of politics, art and philosophy on topics such as political ecology, pacifism, deliberative democracy, the philosophical discourse of modernity, degrowth, pluriverse and systemic alternatives to authoritarian capitalism. Participating in climate camps, reading and cycling are also some of my favorite free-time activities.
