Call for applications for PhD student representatives for the HiLIFE board for term 8/2018-7/2020

HiLIFE Helsinki Institute of Life Science is a research-oriented institute within the UH that supports high quality life science research across the University’s campuses and faculties. HiLIFE builds on existing strengths and new recruits and partnerships to create an attractive international environment for researchers to solve major challenges in health, food, and environment.

HiLIFE board develops the institute’s activities together with the director in accordance with the University’s strategy. The duties of the board are:

  • discussing the institute’s target program as well as the human resources policy and budget contained in it (UH regulations);
  • discuss and resolve matters that the director has referred to the Board based on their importance or far-reaching nature (UH regulations);
  • submit a proposal on appointment of director to the Rector (Rector’s resolution 193/2009);
  • provide a statement on the appointment of Level 3 teaching and research personnel and Level 4 research directors for three year or a longer term (Rector’s resolution 193/2009);
  • decide on HiLIFE research programs based on evaluation;
  • submit a proposal on HiLIFE operative units based on evaluation;
  • submit a proposal on members and chairperson of HiLIFE Scientific Council to the Rector and to appoint Scientific Advisory Boards when necessary;
    submit a proposal on members and chairperson of HiLIFE Innovation and Corporate Relations Council to the Rector; and
  • provide a statement on life science research infrastructures based on evaluation.

HiLIFE board meets approximately six times a year. As HiLIFE activities are mainly in English the board agenda, minutes and other materials are in English with the exception of some UH materials being available in due time only in Finnish.
