Outreach program 2015

You might or might not have noticed them in the hallways; we have started an outreach campaign to get more doctoral students interested in the doctoral affairs at the University and to attract more members.

posters outreach 2015 univeristy of helsinki phd doctoral studentsThe posters display various emblematic figures pertaining to different scientific fields and contexts. Originally, we planned to distribute one color in each campus. The centre campus would have seen only the yellow posters, with Martin Luther King Jr. and Alice Paul, a prominent women’s rights activitst. The green poster are aimed at people working in biosciences in Viiki, with Lynn Margulis, who proposed the theory of the unicellular origin of multicellular life and Charles Darwin. Students in natural sciences at the Kumpula campus could have looked at Pythagore and Marie Curie on the blue posters while pink posters displaying Aesculapius and  Barbara McClintock, whose famous work on mobile genetic elements has revolutionized the field of genetics, would have appeared in Meilahti.

Then we though everybody should see all the posters so we ended up sending all the versions to each campus! The posters feature a link to our webpage (bit.ly/phdhelsinki, which you can easily shared around) and a qr code for mobile devices that links to the same address.

On the topic of outreach, our secretary recently appeared on the stage of Studio HBL where she was introduced as the secretary of our association and she discussed, among other the recent budget cuts at the University. We strive to take every opportunity to make the association known in the media. Thank you Julia!

Have a great fall and don’t forget to talk to your fellow doctoral students about the association and invite them to join!
