Kielentutkimuksen tohtoriohjelman Kaamosseminaari järjestetään torstaina 14.12. noin klo 9–18 Kielikeskuksen (Fabianinkatu 26) tiloissa.

Kaamosseminaari on tuttuun tapaan tekstipajapäivä, jossa käsitellään väitöskirjan tekijöiden tekstejä ja jossa aiheet, kielet ja kollegat kohtaavat. Seminaarissa syvennytään monenlaisiin tutkimusaiheisiin, annetaan ja saadaan hyvää palautetta sekä tietenkin torjutaan kaamosta hyvässä seurassa.

Kaamosseminaari alkaa tohtoriohjelman lyhyellä avauspuheenvuorolla ja sen jälkeen professori Arto Mustajoen plenaarilla otsikolla ”Onko ilmiölähtöisyydelle tilaa kielentutkimuksen metodologiassa?”.

Väitöskirjatutkija! Tule mukaan tekstisi kanssa! Teksti voi olla artikkeli tai sen aihio, monografian osa tai muu väitöskirjatutkimukseen liittyvä teksti. Tekstin ei tarvitse olla täydellisen valmis – seminaarin on tarkoitus auttaa prosessissa, älä siis arkaile! Pituutta tekstillä on hyvä olla 15-20 sivua. Liitä mukaan myös jonkinlainen johdanto aiheeseen, dispositio ym., jotta lukijat saavat tekstille sopivan taustoituksen. Tekstin kieli voi olla ainakin suomi, ruotsi tai englanti, ja mahdollisesti myös joku muu kieli, jos sopivat lukijat löytyvät. Mainitse asiasta lomakkeessa sille tarkoitetussa kohdassa. Keskustelun kieli voi olla suomi tai englanti tekstin kielestä riippumatta. Seminaarissa tekstisi saa kommentoijakseen yhden jatko-opiskelijakollegan sekä yhden väitelleen tutkijan. Pääset myös itse toimimaan jonkun toisen väitöskirjatutkijan tekstin kommentaattorina.

Ohjaaja, post-doc ja muu kaivattu tutkija! Tule mukaan lukemaan ja antamaan palautetta väitöskirjatutkijan tekstistä! Seminaarissa on tarkoitus, että jatko-opiskelijat saavat palautetta joltakulta muulta kuin omalta ohjaajalta – asiantuntemustasi ja heittäytymiskykyäsi siis tarvitaan!

Tekstipajoissa tekstejä käsitellään samalla periaatteella kuin omissa tutkijaseminaareissa: Aluksi kirjoittaja lyhyesti alustaa tutkimusaiheestaan ja käsillä olevasta tekstistä, jonka jälkeen siirrytään keskusteluun. Keskustelun tarkempi kulku on seminaariryhmän itse päätettävissä, ja vaikka kommentoijat ovat vetovastuussa, kaikkien mukana olevien toivotaan osallistuvan. Tärkeintä on rakentava palaute rennossa ilmapiirissä – seminaaripäivän päätyttyä paikalta poistuu tyytyväisiä kirjoittajia ja lukijoita!

Dear fellow linguists!

The Winter Seminar organised by the Doctoral Programme for Language Studies will take place this year on Thursday, December 14th from about 9 am to 6 pm in the premises of the Language Centre (Fabianinkatu 26).

The Winter Seminar is a text workshop, where texts from PhD students are discussed and where topics, languages and colleagues meet. It is the occasion to approach a diversity of topics, get and give constructive feedback and of course fight off the kaamos bleakness in good company.

The seminar will start with a short opening speech by the doctoral programme and then a plenary by Professor Arto Mustajoki (in Finnish): ”Onko ilmiölähtöisyydelle tilaa kielentutkimuksen metodologiassa?”.

Register at the following address: https://elomake.helsinki.fi/lomakkeet/83471/lomake.html. The registration deadline is on November, 17th. The registration form is meant for both the PhD students and the other commentator participants.

PhD students! Come with your text! The text can be a draft of an article, a chapter of a monograph or another text that is somehow related to your research project. The text does not need to be a completely finished product – the idea of the seminar is indeed to help in the writing process. The length should be approximately 15 to 20 pages.
Do attach to the text a short introduction to the topic and/or the structure of your thesis to help the reader in the commenting process. The language of the text can be either Finnish, Swedish or English, and even possibly another language as long as suitable commentators are available. There is a text box in the form where you can inform us of the language you would like to write in. The working language of the seminar can be Finnish or English independently of the language of the text. Your text will receive two commentators: a fellow PhD student and a senior researcher, and you will also yourself be the main commentator of another text.

The deadline for text submission is on December, 7th. Post your text in the appropriate group discussion on the Moodle platform of the seminar: https://moodle.helsinki.fi/course/view.php?id=26519. This is also where you will find the other texts to read.

Senior researchers! Come and join us to discuss texts, give feedback and create a collaborative atmosphere. The idea of the seminar is that PhD students will get feedback from somebody else than their own supervisor – your expertise is needed!

In the workshops, the texts are discussed according to the same principle as in the different PhD research seminars. At the beginning, the author of the text at hand gives a short introduction to the topic and the text itself, after which we move on to the discussion. The more specific progression of the discussion is for the group to decide, and although the main commentators are in charge of keeping the discussion going, we hope that all the participants participate and give their own feedback. Constructive feedback and a relaxed atmosphere are all that counts!

The venue of the seminar is the Language Centre (Fabianinkatu 26). More information on the exact rooms will come closer to the date.

To keep the spirit going: two coffee breaks (morning and afternoon) and a sponsored lunch (Unicafe).
