Title Gustav Shpet’s Theory of the Inner Form of the Word: A Phenomenological Study
Description The dissertation tackles two themes central to Gustav Shpet’s (1879-1937) philosophical oeuvre: his interpretation of Edmund Husserl’s phenomenology and theory of the inner form of the word. First, the study shows that Shpet followd Husserl’s transcendental model more accurately than has previously been thought. Then, following this new reading of Shpet’s phenomenology, the dissertation draws an analysis of his later theory of the inner form of the word. The central argument of the thesis is that Shpet’s theory of the inner form, as it is prsented in his Esteticheskie fragmenty (1922-23), is in a strict sense phenomenological.
