Talk on writing and publishing in Sweden and Finland with writers with different mother tongues

In relation to Nordic Culture Point’s thematic Migration and International Mother Language Day on March 20th, Nordic multilingual literature project NolitchX and Sivuvalo invite to a conversation with poets Najlaa Eltom (Sudan/Sweden), Petra Mölstad (Sweden), and José Luis Rico Carrillo (Mexico/Finland) on their experience of writing and publishing in the Nordic countries Finland and Sweden.

What is the relationship between writing and migration? Does a writer’s use of her or his mother tongue change with migration, through living and writing in a foreign context? Where does a Sudanese poet in Sweden or a Mexican poet in Finland publish her or his work? Is it really easier for Finnish, Finnish Swedish and Swedish poets to publish their work in Finland and Sweden?

The poets will also read some of their work. The poems will be read in the original language (Arabic, Spanish and Swedish) with Finnish translations by Sampsa Peltonen, Anne Ketola and Hannimari Heino.
The talk will be moderated by PhD Anne Ketola and held in English.

Organized by NolitchX and Sivuvalo Platform
With support from Nordic Culture Point
