A Report on KNAW Academie Colloquium Making Sense of Religious Texts: Patterns of Agency, Synergy, and Identity
On 27 October 2015 a small yet diverse pool of scholars and students converged for a three day meeting in an impressive 17th century mansion in the center of Amsterdam, Netherlands (click here to watch a video about its history). The conference, organized by Mladen Popovic, Sabrina Corbellini, and Stefania Travagnin (all of the University of Groningen), brought together scholars of Early Judaism, Medieval book historians, and experts on religion in the Chinese sphere to discuss religious texts from a cross-cultural and interdisciplinary perspective. Julkisesti rahoitetun monitieteellisen tutkimuksen oletetaan lähtökohtaisesti hyödyttävän paitsi tiedeyhteisöä, myös laajempaa suomalaista yhteiskuntaa.” Näin avaavat toimittajat Siria Kohonen ja Jussi Rytkönen laajan huippuyksikköjä käsittelevän artikkelinsa Kotimaa-lehdessä 5.11.2015. “Huipputeologia sukeltaa pyhään ja ajankohtaiseen” -nimisessä artikkelissa haastateltavina olivat professori Martti Nissinen, TT Mika S. Pajunen ja tohtorikoulutettava Sanna Saari.

Huippuyksikön johtaja professori Martti Nissinen vieraili Ylen kirjakerhossa keskustelemassa pakolaisuudesta Vanhassa testamentissa. Nissinen kertoi, että Raamattu kertoo montaa pakolaistarinaa ja pakolaisuuden kokemus itsessään on Vanhan testamentin ja juutalaisuuden synnyn taustalla. Nissinen valottaa myös, miten Heprealainen Raamattu kehottaa suhtautumaan muukalaisuuteen ja keitä muukalaiset itse asiassa ovat.

On September 17-18 2015, a colloquium on Ancient Near Eastern Figurines took place in the old city of Tallinn (see programme). It was focused on the figurines of Iron Age Palestine and Transjordan, aiming to bring together scholars who study clay figurines from different periods and parts of the southern Levant.
