Turhautuminen julkaisuprosessin hitauteen on lisännyt niin sanottujen preprint-arkistojen suosiota. Vertaisarvioimattomien artikkelien julkaiseminen tarjoaa mahdollisuuden tulosten nopeaan esittelyyn ja artikkelin parantamiseen avoimen vertaisarvioinnin keinoin.
